Are we destroying more than we create?

40 Billion Sq. Meters of fabric wasted every year | 2.4 acres of forest land destroyed every second
137 life forms driven to extinction every day | 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gases emitted from Textile factories each year

We have a problem- don’t you agree?

The take-make-dispose practice followed by the textile industry has put great pressure on our natural resources. If not recycled, all the fabric waste generated eventually ends up in landfills. Once again, forests are cut down for raw material. This not only pollutes and degrades the environment but also creates a negative social impact by marginalizing cotton farmers and textile workers.

Sustainability – The Only Way

The only way to balance meeting our needs without compromising on the future of the environment is by making sustainable choices. We need to look at a circular economy wherein we turn the waste into wealth. Sustainability needs to be a concern at every stage of a product’s life. Raw materials need to be tree-free. Production must be less-energy intensive and based on recyclable energy. The use of chemicals must be minimized, and the pollution emitted must be reduced.

With such sustainable practices, fibre, textiles and clothes are kept at their highest use and after their use, they re-enter the economy as raw materials once more, thus never to become waste.

Closing the Loop

The world cannot be imagined without fabric, but the production of fabric creates waste. The changing fashion trends also create waste through fast fashion. A circular economy helps reduce and recycle waste. Textile waste can be recycled through innovative processes to create new fabric, paper and paper products – from environmentally conscious fashion to the tags that hang from them and the boxes they are packaged in. Once their job is done, they may be recycled once again, thus closing the loop completely.
